Andy Ram from Israel and France’s Nathalie Dechy won the French Open mixed doubles title today, beating the pairing of Serbia’s Nenad Zimonjic and Slovenia’s Katerina Srebotnik 7-5, 6-3.
Nathalie Dechy was a picture of happiness today as received the mixed doubles trophy from compariot Françoise Dürr, a women’s singles champion back in 1967.
"Nat" and Andy Ram were eighth seeds and underdogs against the Zimonjic and Srebotnik pairing, who were the reigning champions. The French/Israeli pairing were supported by a partisan crowd and triumphed in 1 hour 12 mins. Dechy was particularly aggressive at the net and her go-for-broke attitude paid off in the end.
"Andy was supposed to be playing with Vera Zvonareva, my doubles partner, so we only got together at the last minute. To win here on centre court was just great and I hope to experience the same emotions in singles one day!” said a delighted Dechy.
