Day 11 - An interview with Igor Andreev - Wednesday, June 6, 2007
Q. I take it that you ran out of gas, that you were starting to feel very tired from the middle of the second set, yes? IGOR ANDREEV: Yeah, that's true. Because it was my first experience in a Grand Slam, and first time I won four matches in a row, so it takes a lot of physic. And especially for me that I didn't play for a long time, it's maybe even harder. So, well, what it's -- I mean, it's nice to feel this. Nice to feel like -- matches like this give you much more experience, and you're just getting stronger for the future.
Q. Was it physical tiredness or was it also mental tiredness after some big matches? IGOR ANDREEV: Well, I think it's both. Mental, just past the physical, so when you are a little nervous, and you just use more physic, you know. Like these two things make you feel much, much tired.
Q. Are you pleased with your tournament? You say you haven't been playing much coming in. Are you pleased with what you've done here, what you've achieved? IGOR ANDREEV: Well, I think, yeah. I think it was a good tournament. I won a few very good matches with great players. And, well, unfortunately, when, like, you are playing, you never think that you can, I mean, reach semifinal, then final. But you keep winning matches, so you think that you can do it. Well, unfortunately, today it couldn't happen. I couldn't reach my first semifinal. But I did a good experience, and I think for the future, for the future, it's not going to be my last quarterfinal.
Q. Could you tell us something about the characteristics of Djokovic as a player, what are his strongest points? IGOR ANDREEV: Well, I think his stronger point that is his no, like, bad shots. He hits from both -- he does very good everything. He's defending very well. He's serving well on important points, just, like, you're receiving well or returning well the balls. So he's a strong guy. I mean I'm surprised, like, mentally, he's so strong for the young age that he is. |
